Two of the Borough's top visitor attractions have excelled yet again to gain recogition in a top national awards programme.
Keep Britain Tidy has formally announced that both Doncaster Council’s Sandall Beat Wood and Cusworth Park have been awarded a prestigious Green Flag Award for 2009 to 2010, for the second year in succession.
The Green Flag Award is the national standard and benchmark of excellence for parks and recreational green spaces in England and Wales.
Councillor Mark Thompson, Cabinet Member for Environment and Sustainability said, "This is a phenomenal achievement and shows that Doncaster has some of the best green spaces in the country."
Both sites originally scooped the honour last summer with exceptionally successful first applications. Assessment criteria for the awards include conservation and heritage, community involvement, site accessibility and cleanliness.
The much-loved Sandall Beat Wood impressed assessors with improvements to directional signage to and around the woods as well as to a popular trail for all abilities. The award-winning streak will hopefully continue with further improvements already underway, including summer Sunday opening from 9:30am to 3:30pm and improved access from Cantley Park to the south of the woods.
Staff at Cusworth Park, Hall and Museum are also not resting on their laurels, with an extensive family events calendar scheduled to ensure that as many visitors as possible can enjoy the award-winning grounds.
