Countryside Activities

April - June 2010

Throughout the year, Doncaster Council runs a series of varied events exploring Doncaster's countryside, wildlife and heritage. We offer activities for all ages and interests, including guided walks, children's events, family outings, stories, wildlife events, Doncaster Country Fair and more. So find an event that suits you, come along and enjoy yourself!

And remember when you arrive at an activity, look out for the Council's experienced activity leaders - whatever the weather, they'll be there!

Walking for Health

Every Thursday, 10:00am -11:30am

Gentle strolling is a good start for people who are not used to exercise - it is one of the best ways for people to become more active. Walking for Health has been developed in partnership with Doncaster Primary Care Trust. Meet at the Community Environment Centre, Sandall Beat Wood, off Leger Way.
Notes – Dogs welcome, appropriate clothing and footwear required.

Junior Rangers

Saturday 10th April, 10am - 12pm
Saturday 8th May, 10am - 12pm
Saturday 12th June, 10am - 12pm

Fun activities for 8-11 year olds from pond dipping and shelter building, to games and crafts.  Membership needed.  Please phone the team on 01302 300798 to join. 

Appropriate clothing and footwear required.

Green Guardians

Sunday 11th April, 10am - 12pm
Sunday 9th May, 10am - 12pm
Sunday 13th June, 10am - 12pm

Free monthly activities in, about and for the environment, especially for you and your child to share.  Children up to 11 years welcome - a parent or guardian must accompany all children. Meet at Sandall Beat Community Environment Centre, Sandall Beat Wood, off Leger Way.

Appropriate clothing and footwear required, wheelchair friendly activity.

Friends of Sandall Beat Wood

Every Thursday 1pm - 3pm
Saturday 17th April, 10am - 1pm
Saturday 15th May, 10am - 1pm
Saturday 19th June, 10am - 1pm

Friends are local volunteers who meet regularly to carry out practical woodland management at this important Local Nature Reserve.  Just bring yourself and your enthusiasm - we'll provide a warm welcome. Meet at Sandall Beat Community Environment Centre, Sandall Beat Wood, off Leger Way.

Appropriate clothing and footwear required, dogs welcome.

Scarecrow Craft

Wednesday 2nd June, 10am - 12noon or 1pm - 3pm

Spend some time making scarecrow related crafts to take home, in the run up to our annual Scarecrow festival. For children aged up to and including 11 years, with an adult.

Wheelchair friendly activity, appropriate clothing and footwear required.

Scarecrow Craft

Friday 4th June, 1pm - 4pm

Come and spend the afternoon in Sandall Beat Wood at our annual Scarecrow Festival. Join in with our scarecrow activities, and see our Scarecrow Competition. Fancy Dress optional. For children and adults.
