Welcome to Doncaster

Doncaster is an historic market town, with a rich horseracing and railway heritage. Founded in AD 71 by the Romans due to its strategic position on the River Don, transport and connectivity continue to play an important part to this day.The town of Doncaster sits at the very heart of a vast metropolitan area, consisting of green open spaces, nature reserves and an amazing variety of flora and fauna.

Doncaster includes ancient villages and towns such as Conisbrough and Tickhill, both of which have Norman castles.

From 3rd-12th September 2010, Doncaster will be celebrating its heritage in style with the St Leger Festival Week, including Doncaster Live, Roman soldiers in the Market Place, funfairs, four days of world class horseracing, and so much more.

Our new Visitor Guide is available on-line or can be ordered from Doncaster Tourism.
